How to Use Your Standing Desk Controller
Your desk is controlled by six buttons and a small display. This guide shows what each one does, how to save your sitting and standing heights, and what to do if the desk stops moving.
It is written for the ShuoErgoLab DM22F-04D dual motor desk frame. The frame adjusts from 730 to 1180 mm, measured with the desktop fitted, and the controller remembers up to three heights.
Meet the controller
The controller sits under the front edge of the desk. From left to right: a height display, Up, Down, three memory buttons and M.

The display shows the current desk height in centimetres, from 73.0 at the lowest position, and updates as the desk moves.
Raise and lower the desk
Press and hold Up to raise the desk, or Down to lower it. The desk stops as soon as you let go, and the display counts the height as it moves.
- Clear the area first: nothing under the desk, against a wall or on the windowsill in its path.
- Keep the total load on the desk under 100 kg.
- If the desk is close to the height you want, tap the button in short presses to fine-tune it.
Save your sitting and standing heights
Buttons 1, 2 and 3 each hold one height. A common setup is your sitting height on 1 and your standing height on 2, with 3 left for a second user or a stool.
- Use Up or Down to move the desk to the height you want.
- With the desk still, press M. The display shows S-.
- Press 1, 2 or 3. That button now holds the current height.
To change a saved height, move to the new height and repeat the steps. The new height replaces the old one. Saved heights stay in memory after a power cut.
Go to a saved height
Press 1, 2 or 3 once. You don't need to hold it: the desk moves to the height saved on that button and stops by itself. To stop it partway, for example if something is in the way, press any button.
With your heights saved, switching between sitting and standing takes one button press.
Lock the controller
The child lock stops anyone moving the desk by accident. Hold Up and Down together for 5 seconds. The display shows LoC and the desk won't move. Do the same again to unlock.
Reset the desk
You must reset the desk before you use it for the first time. Run the same reset if the desk stops responding or the two sides sit at different heights. It takes about a minute.
- Clear the space under the desk.
- Press and hold Down, and keep holding through every step below.
- The desk reaches its lowest position and stops. After about 5 more seconds the display shows rSt.
- The desk slowly lowers a little further, then rebounds slightly.
- Release Down. The reset is complete.
The display then shows the current height, and your desk is ready to use. You can also reset in three separate presses of Down, as the first-use box in the manual shows; both ways work. If anything goes wrong during the reset, release Down straight away to stop it, then start again. The desk won't run until a reset has finished.
Change the settings
The M button also opens a settings menu, where you can limit the height range or change how sensitive the desk is to obstacles.
- Press and hold M for 5 seconds, until the menu flashes.
- Short-press M to move to the next setting.
- Short-press Up or Down to change a value. For the minimum and maximum heights, hold Up or Down to change it faster.
- To save and exit, press and hold M until a progress bar appears. The display shows SUS if the change saved, or FAL if it didn't.
The menu closes on its own after 10 seconds without a press.
| Setting | Range |
|---|---|
| Minimum height | 73–108 cm, at least 10 cm below the maximum |
| Maximum height | 83–118 cm, at least 10 cm above the minimum |
| Desktop thickness | Set to match your desktop |
| Obstacle sensitivity, up (PC) and down (DC) | 0 (off) to 5; higher stops more easily |
| Tilt sensor sensitivity (SS) | 0 (off) to 5; higher stops more easily |
| Display unit (U) | 0 = cm, 1 = inches |
Obstacle detection helps the desk stop if it meets something, but it doesn't replace keeping the area around the desk clear.
Find a comfortable height
Save heights that fit your body, not a number from a chart. Sit or stand at the desk and adjust until these line up:
- Elbows: bent at about 90 degrees, forearms level and resting lightly on the desk.
- Shoulders: relaxed, not lifted.
- Feet: flat on the floor when sitting.
- Screen: top edge at or just below eye level, about an arm's length away.
Once a height feels right, note the number on the display and save it to a preset. Changing position through the day is easier than standing for hours, and the presets make each change one press.
Troubleshooting and safety
Most problems are fixed by checking the cables or running a reset.
Error codes
| Code | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| rSt | Reset not finished | Run the reset above |
| hot | Motor overheat protection | Wait about 18 minutes; the desk works again on its own |
| E11 | Overload | Remove weight and check nothing is blocking the desk. Don't use it until both are checked. |
| E14 | Obstruction detected; the desk has moved back about 5 cm | Clear the obstruction. Don't use the desk until the way is clear. |
| E12 | Motor phase missing | Check the motor cables are fully connected, reconnect them and reset the desk |
| E13 | Motor Hall signal error | Reconnect the motor cables and reset the desk |
| E16 | Motor cable unplugged | Reconnect the motor cables and reset the desk |
| E10, sc0, sc1, sc4 | Drive circuit or self-test fault | Unplug from the wall, then plug back in |
| r-6 | Mains voltage abnormal | Clears on its own when the voltage returns to normal |
| E17 | Mechanical fault | Check the desk is assembled as the manual shows. Don't use it until checked. |
Other problems
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Display is dark and nothing responds | Check the plug at the wall, the power adapter cable and the controller cable. Push each one in fully. |
| Buttons do nothing and the display shows LoC | The child lock is on. Hold Up and Down together for 5 seconds. |
| One side is higher than the other | Run the reset. |
| A preset goes to the wrong height | Save that height again. |
For safety, keep children away from the controller and unplug the desk before touching the wiring. To move the desk, lower it fully and lift it by the frame, or take the desktop off first. Never lift it by the desktop alone, as that strains the screws holding the frame on.
